A family returning to their roots to restore a c.1773 homestead

Welcome to

Root to Rise Farm!

A smiling man and woman sitting on stone steps outside a white house with a porch, holding a happy Australian Shepherd dog. The man has brown hair, and the woman has brown hair with a yellow headband. They are dressed casually, and the woman is wearing patterned trousers. There are shrubs and grass around the steps.

We are Tom and Lizzie Wemyss, the proud owners of a 100-acre, historic farm along the Connecticut River & nestled in the breathtaking landscape of the Northeast Kingdom, Vermont.

Our farm, drenched in 250 years of history, was uninhabited, deeply neglected, and in a state of intense disrepair when we purchased it in August, 2023. Since then, we’ve poured our hearts and souls into restoring the house, uncovering and tending to the overgrown gardens, and breathing life back into the farm.

We raise heritage Scottish Highland cattle for breeding stock and beef utilizing regenerative farming practices on open pasture alongside non GMO chicken, pork, and turkey, We also grow heirloom veggies and rustic flowers for our farm stand and Field Share CSA, and bake artisan sourdough bread and goods all while raising our two young daughters and soaking up everything the Kingdom has to offer us.

Get a Taste of the Northeast Kingdom At Our Farm Stand

Our Farm Stand season has come to a beautiful conclusion as the weather begins to turn, the veggie and flower beds have given everything that they can, and our oven that has been humming along 7 days a week asks for a rest (and a deep clean).

Thank you so much for such a big, bountiful, BUSY season!

When the stand is open, it is stocked with our seasonal heirloom vegetables, rustic farm cut flowers, and sourdough bread and baked goods.

With epic, panoramic views of the Pilot and Presidential Ranges of the White Mountains and pastoral views of grazing fields and Highland cows, it is the perfect place to stop, get out, breathe that fresh Green Mountain air, participate in a local food network, and experience the beauty that makes the Northeast Kingdom so special.
